Divine intervention (blog)
I recently needed new bicycle tyres. The difficulty I had finding suitable tyres in the remote region of Portugal where I live, is another story. Suffice to say, I eventually located a shop in a different part of the country that stocked them, and they sent them to me. Once they arrived, I drove to my local town to find a man I had been told about, who mostly repairs garden machines but also does the odd bike. The next day, I cycled to his workshop to have the tyres fitted. The ride home was uneventful.
A few days later, I planned to cycle a new route, quite a long one, and was looking forward to it. I checked the tyre pressures before setting off and found they had dropped a little, so I added air. A few minutes later, there was an almighty bang. I reeled in shock. It was so loud that I couldn’t work out where it had come from. I scanned the basement (where the bike lives), to see if the heating system or the water filtration system had exploded? No. Then I cast my eyes to my bike. Lo and behold, the front tyre had blown clean off the wheel and the inner tube was shattered. At one level, I was relieved it wasn’t more serious. At another level, I was gutted! I would have to put the bike on the back of the car and take it into town to get a new inner tube fitted.
Meanwhile, all dressed up and ready to go, I decided to do a walk instead. The sun was shining and the views were glorious, which helped me get over the disappointment of being on ‘shanks pony’ rather than my bike. I was grateful that divine synchronicity had organised things so that I wasn’t stranded miles from home, or catapulted from my bike on a speedy downhill descent, when the explosion occurred.
That wasn’t the only divine intervention of late. At this point, I am going to meander off piste. There has been a recurring message recently, from various spiritually orientated sources, along the lines of ….‘We are a spark of creative source, having a human experience. We are made of the same stuff, so everything we need is contained within. Unimagined abilities to heal ourselves, direct connection with source intelligence, telepathy, wisdom of the universe and more. We were created perfect but have long since forgotten who we really are. Therefore, it isn’t a question of self-improvement, it is ‘simply’ (I wish!) a question of allowing what is, to be. And as we become a grander version of ourselves, so too, will the world around us.’... I have instinctively known this since early adulthood, and been on a quest to develop some of these abilities all my life, prompted by a multitude of challenges I have faced in more run of the mill quests such as business, sport and relationships. Obviously, mastery of our divine gifts is a ‘lives-long’ work in progress!
Recently, I experienced a tiny little metaphor for this idea, which made me smile. Since moving to the area, I had been searching for a local source of fresh organic food. Everyone who lives rurally in Portugal grows their own fruit and vegetables, and I have been the grateful recipient of some of my kind neighbours’ organic produce. However, I had to buy most of what I needed from the local town, which was not organic. I was prepared to drive to other towns an hour away, if I could only find a supplier, but there were none. The region is poor and, for most, paying a premium for organic food is out of the question. Hence there is no demand (and little awareness of the benefits, for that matter). I did, however, discover a monthly food market in the town and, to my joy, identified one seller who grows organically. Still, I needed more food in between markets, as I am vegetarian and eat mostly fruit and vegetables…..
